What is a tag?

For assets, you can add filterable attributes in the form of tags, tags provide the ability to export assets based on specific criteria, drill deeper into a selected group of assets, and facilitate automation within the platform based on tag assignments.

An organization (all customers will have at least one) can contain many assets, and each has a unique asset ID. The name of an asset doesn’t have to be unique, although we recommend it.

Common tags we see customers using

When utilizing tags, we consider them as additional information linked to an asset. Since each customer has its unique language and terminology, these tags can be tailored to suit the assets effectively.

  • If an asset holds significance for regulations like SOX, ISO27001, or PCI, this information is commonly represented using a tag.
  • Importance. If an asset is crucial for business operations, it could be tagged with descriptors like high-impact, business impact, or public facing.
  • For assets that need to undergo annual penetration testing, a tag indicating "annual penetration test required" may be applied.

External interactions

You have the flexibility to assign tags dynamically to assets in Edgescan. This means that if you have a system outside of Edgescan and you want to update the tags in Edgescan based on a status or flag in that external system, you can do so using the API. This feature allows for seamless integration and efficient management of your asset tags across different platforms.
