How Do I Use The Scope Configuration Page?

The scope configuration page is used to decide what happens once the crawling stage of an assessment is complete, you can decide what parts of your asset get scanned, and what parts remain out of scope.

Access

The scope configuration page is accessed through the asset page for each of your web application assets. Click the "gear" icon on the top right of the page to access.


Navigation

You can navigate back to the main asset page via the back button, or switch the scope configuration page to another applicable asset via the "Change asset..." dropdown.

Timeline

The scan timeline is located at the top of the page. It displays all phases in the scan life-cycle and highlights the current phase.

Configuration

The top bar of the main pane provides a few configuration options on the right as well as the current status of the scan on the left.

The configuration options available here are:

  • Manual Configuration toggle.
  • Pause for targeting criteria.
  • Proceed with scan.
    • Only available during the "targeting" phase.
    • Clicking on this will commence the scan.

Time Estimates

During the targeting phase. We provide you with time estimates for your scan at the bottom of the main pane. These values allow you to gauge the size of your sitemap and the effect of your directives. This will update each time you create or edit a scope directive. These display:

  • The number of in-scope URLs.
  • The estimated scan duration.
    • This is an estimate of the combined scanning time and doesn't take your scanning schedule into account.
  • An estimated completion date.
    • This is an estimate of what date and time the scan will finish, and accounts for your scanning schedule.

Scope Directives

The scope directives view is on the right side of the main pane. Here you can view, edit, delete or clone your current scope directives, and create new scope directives.

This view includes filter functionality and a toggle to swap between an descriptive list which describes describes the effect of each directive or a table list which displays each of the directives fields and values.

You can click the full-screen button on the top right to view the directives pane in full-screen or double click or drag the expander in the middle of the pane to adjust the width.

Sitemap

You can view your sitemap on the left side of the main pain. It is presented in a tree/directory structure, you can navigate through the directories and see what URLs reside within them.

Each directory displays its count of child URLs as well as how many are included (included child URLs for scanning / total child URLs)

Each URL displays information regarding its HTTP Method and whether it's currently in-scope for scanning.
