Version Number: v1.0.0 Published Date: 15 Sep 2026 \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ An asset requires an active licence before it can be scanned. While a licence is usually applied during asset creation, you can also assign, swap, or remove a licence on an asset at any time after it's been created, for example, if the asset was created without one, its original licence has expired, or you want to move it to a different licence type. ### Assigning a licence to an unlicensed asset 1. Navigate to the asset's page. 2. Click **Assign Licence**. 4. From the dropdown, select an available licence. The list shows licences from all your active orders, along with their start/end dates and remaining quantity. 5. Click **Assign** to bind the licence to the asset. ![](https://kb.edgescan.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Sep-15-2026-02-32-34-5970-PM.png?width=670&height=449&name=image-png-Sep-15-2026-02-32-34-5970-PM.png)   ### Replacing an existing licence If an asset already has a licence assigned and you want to move it to a different one — for example, upgrading from Essentials to Professional, or moving it onto a renewed licence from a new order: 1. Navigate to the asset's page. 2. In the **Licence** section, click the configuration/settings icon next to the currently assigned licence. 3. Select **Replace Licence**. 4. Choose the new licence from the list of available, active licences. 5. Click **Assign**. ### Removing a licence from an asset 1. Navigate to the asset's page. 2. In the **Licence** section, click the configuration/settings icon next to the assigned licence. 3. Select **Revoke Licence**. 4. Confirm the removal. If a licence has used it's testing allocation it cannot be re-assigned to another asset. Revoking a licence stops future scanning on that asset until a new licence is assigned.
